Ending the year on a positive note (Trident Kickstarter Update #33)

Original post: December 22, 2018

Hello everyone!

This was an important holiday season for us. We are very happy to announce that we have shipped the bulk of our Kickstarter and pre-order Tridents! It has been a long and exciting journey we’ve all taken together and it’s been a pleasure to get to know some of you over the years. If you’re enjoying your Trident please don’t be shy about sharing the videos, stories and photos with us on Open Explorer, our forums, or the Trident Pilot’s Facebook Group.

New orders are now shipping within 1-2 weeks. You can visit our online store here.

If you've been following our social media posts, you’ve probably seen some of the incredible things Tridents around the world are doing. One deployment that I am particularly excited to share with you is our own recent dive to the shipwreck of the SS Tahoe. We’ve got a long and exciting history with this shipwreck - you may remember it from this early update, or from OpenExplorer. For those that aren’t familiar, the Tahoe is a 160-foot-long steamship in Lake Tahoe that was built in the 1800’s. We’ve been able to get more footage of the wreck than has ever been recorded before - a huge deal for archaeologists and explorers alike. You can check out some of the highlights from our recent dives in this CNET video. We’re eager to go back and explore other parts of the ship even more thoroughly sometime soon. We’ll keep everyone posted as those plans develop!

Also, if you didn’t catch it already, National Geographic made a short video about our mission to enable everyone to be an explorer.

As we kick off 2019 we are thinking about the future of Trident and the future of the movement we are all caught up in. From the onset of this journey our goal has been to make underwater exploration accessible to everyone. As we look across all the things that Trident is doing we are also starting to get excited about its many industrial and commercial uses. Already, we’ve seen our vehicles used for search and rescue operations, (this fire department is a great example), and in underwater infrastructure repair projects. One team earlier in 2018 used their Trident in conjunction with divers and other tools to find and repair a cable that supplied power to an entire Island.

We are really eager to find partners and opportunities in new areas like these. If you are in an industry that you think could make great use of Trident, we’d love to hear from you! Please email info@openrov.com with the words, “commercial partnership” in the subject heading.

It was a great 2018 and I think 2019 is going to be even better. A sincere and heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported and contributed to Trident, OpenROV, and Open Explorer. We couldn’t have done it without you.

Happy New Year!
